"Traction control and ABS are already implemented but should be rolled out across all the vehicles to more closely represent the modern vehicle fleet.'

On racing cars these options are NOT common and any driving aid should be banned in any racing class

Just think of why many people stopping watching F1, overtaking: on corner exit pedal to the medal, your car will take care of your corner exit. action nr 2: push a button voila you passed the car which was in front of you. Real battles for position in F1 are currently something from the past. That is the effect of using driving aids....

Quote from MadCatX :What Bluebird suggests is not really a solution, it's rather a workaround that'd stop all these complains. If it was made clear that by sharing your skin online you automatically give anybody permission to modify it, people would stop complaining. However, it's more like "We can't stop murderers from killing people, so let's just make killing legal" kind of solution.
Perhaps the private skins should be shared separately so that only people you'd want to have them could get their hands on them.

Rather odd comparing criminal-acts with how to protect creation of art/software whatever.
Last decade open-source produces has proved itself as a very good way to produce lots of good software. It is effectively shutting down the unix-operating system and on your deskop number of great opensource programs is steadily increasing. Mozilla firefox to name a good example which forced microsoft to start improving their lousy browser.

For the few who complain they want to keep their skin for themselves, why the hell did they create their skins for? Just to show off to the very few who are online on the same server when they are online themselves? What a waste of your time If they are so concerned about stealing, they should be paying all those company's big money for all the logos they are using in their skins

Or maybe keep things open and stop complaining is a better idea? So others can improve or make worse what you have created. And we end up with a lot more different skins to choose from

Maybe there should be a change, any skin used online will be automatically public domain (like gpl)
No more arguing about stolen skins It worked very well for software, many people use opensource products/tools without even knowing it. (emule, torrent clients, 7-zip etc.)
So everyone can takes anybody's skin and edit it, improve it or make it worse. In the long run it will be more productive than if everybody keeps their skin to themselves.

edit: ...demo user & FE pics is obviously strange, but what if this guy is just a fake demo-user?

I think his idea is great

I think the lfs-crew should not be making adjustments for 8+ year old systems. In computer business it is very important to always move forward. Making software that also runs on old hardware is ok, but 8+ years? 5 years is already considered seriously old, outdated and seriously slow!

ignition cut on fzr back please
Bluebird B B

Let me explain why i want ignition cut back on the fzr,

A fiat 500, a little cheap ass car if equipped with the auto/semi-auto gearbox, the car has a ignition/throttle cut system on gear change.

It feels not very good/natural/realistic that a $150.000+ does not have a sophisticated throttle-cut/ignition cut system for gear changes but just a simple old-school h-pattern gearbox. It just feels wrong for a major patch to still stick to old-school gear boxes from the past.

I think for the next patch, LFS should not have such old fashioned features on cars which are supposed to be modern day racing cars. Even better, many road cars have very fasts semi-auto gearboxes. So maybe the H-pattern gearbox should only be for cars which resembles history like uf 1000 and lx4? All other cars at should have least a sequential gearbox with ignition-cut? The slower cars, having a slower sequential gearbox and the racing cars having a faster/better sequential/semi-auto gearbox box?

Fox example gearchange in a XRT should take 0.40 seconds while the GTR class cars should change gear in 0.15 seconds, FOX and FO8 in 0.12 seconds and the bf1 in 0.05 sec?

What do you think????
kv gp long Y?

Hello,
I saw some servers on line running kv gp long Y, a new very very long and very cool great track.
But it appears as autocross configuration with flawed checkpoints(laps not counting).
So i tried single player, at first i could select kv gp long, but after some clicking in the selection screen, the configuration disappeared?
After which i could only select the much shorter version which resembles more the old track?

Is the new track layout a mistake and should it not have been in this patch?? How can i get the "Y" configuration to work properly? because it is seriously cool 6+ minutes of driving!!!

I now continue testing at other tracks

Quote from M3nn0 :Hi,

Yeah there is some movement in developing, after the TEST patch it will be released officially and after that we going to work on some new content and the physics will be better.

Victor

Actually i am more waiting for the physics updates. FO8 and BF1 are often so frustrating, because the tyres are nowhere near as good as the real tires.

In fact, the fia asked something very special at the end of 2010 season. They asked the manufactures to make the tires worse!
This is in contrast to lfs where the bf1 sets the tires on fire within 3-4 laps with a realistic setup. fo8 suffers from this too but not as bad as the bf1.
Also running r1 with max pressure is nearly always best with fox which is not realistic irl. Tires on max-pressure do not grip at all. Other example of things not just right:The fxo gtr braking performance, hardly any better than a sporty saloon with good year F1 GS-D3 tires. Which irl is very unlikely to happen!

Suspension damage:
Driving over bumps damages suspension too quickly, numerous examples on youtube showing real fast race-car classes are can take huge bumps lap after lap and do not suffer from suspension damage like in lfs. But on the other hand, in lfs you can drive over many high curbstones at 180+km/h which is irl not an good idea!

These several are reasons is why i am not active with lfs, waiting, waiting for tire-physics updates!
Although i appreciate the improvements with current test-patches a lot, the physics really needs improvements the most!

Quote from pik_d :It's actually the top speed that would benefit from this most as there would be less time where the engine is not powering the wheels. If you're slower in corners that's either setup or skill. 1.5 seconds is too much to be attributed to button clutch exploits/macros.

The idea in the OP is nice though, giving a physical (well virtual) limit to how fast the clutch can move in H-pattern gearboxes would wash out this form of exploiting.

Depends on track, top speed with the button-clutch-macro should be bit higher. But i tested just on one track as national where the exit out of the last corner is more important. Speed at end of a long straight will not be much different.
BUT exits out of the slow corners, made me check my controller, because you just get a feeling like the other cars have more horsepower. Perfect exit and yet they just pull away and i am not talking what happens normally, normally the car in front will create a gap as speed increases. But the effect is just double that and you wonder.. what?? how can he accelarete so fast, does he has half the downforce?

Now i understand to why often gear-ratio's are radically different, if you can do better than F1-style shifts you wont loose time if you have to change gears more often. With the auto-clutch, you loose time if your gears are not a good compromise between number of times you have to shift and what gears are optimal for the corners.

So being able to use instant shifts also means you got to change your gear-ratio's to make best use of it and gaining even more time versus people without instant shifts. Although the effect is looks small, it is an advantage in any car, mrt5, fox,fo8,bf1 too!

It actually screws any fair competition online! And really made me understand why some drivers looked like they were driving a car from another class: Copy there setup, notice strange gearing which totally sucks for normal shifting and makes me and you a lot slower. Most noticeable is they use weird low gears in corners, costing me a lot of time on corner exit and often hard to control because of the short power-loss during the gear-shift..
why... now i know why, they can flatshift with zero-time-delay and thus get benefits of using more gears but they don't have to pay the price of the extra needed gear-shifts. Just like all F1 cars can do since 2007, shift gear and no power-loss to the wheels.

I still have one question, if you use zero-time shift, the engine will be bumped from higher rev's to lower instantly. This is energy should be converted to short burst of extra power to the wheels and damped by the tyres. Does button-macro guys also gain extra advantage because this energy gets more efficiently sent to the wheels? Or is it lost because it is in 0.000000 seconds the lfs-engine just somehow discards it?

And yes, it takes ages to load up. Surprised it still runs.

Dust free, I tried that.

Modern cpu's throttle down when they overheat. There is a change your systems will be a lot faster if you fix your cooling problem. Since all components are hot, try running your system with all side panels removed and see what happens. Offcourse make sure your system is safe, since without the panels your system is very vulnerable to small children for example

Having said that, your current system is slow compared what you want to buy except for the graphics card so it will still be nice to upgrade. As others suggested, look for a 5xxx series ati card. Guessing from what you tell, suggest etc. i think the 5770 will be the best choice for you. You could buy an comparable nvidia card, but you won't have directx 11 and you wont save any money and it won't be more reliable or less reliable.
My old system is built into a antec 900 gamers case, it is a very good case, cooling is excellent and also is the built-quality. What i don't like, building a complete system into it is very time consuming. Took me 4 hours(!) But it is worth the effort.

note: thx for the compcln.exe suggestion, freed 3gbyte with it on my old system.

For playing any gaming a real-graphics card is essential.
Look for a used ati 4890 for example(be sure your power-supply is can handle it!)
Of get a ati 5750 for example.

If you don't have the money to buy such a card(or the nvidia equivalent) and matching power-supply, you just got to save some more money sorry.

Also remember, buying mid-range hardware usually gives by far the best performance for the buck. Just take a look at how expensive those small disks are for example.

Quote from shiny_red_cobra :Default. The only reason it's so hot is cause the fan spins slowly to keep quiet. If I set the fan to 100% it cools down to 35C within a few seconds, but it's loud as hell. Anyway, these chips are designed to take temperatures of up to 100C. After that, a fuse will blow inside the chip and it will turn into a paperweight.

Maybe try a setting around 36-38% fan-speed and monitor the temperatures?
Running the card consistently at over 70C isn't very nice for the chip.

I did have a 4870 too, i had it run in games around 60-65C with 37% fan-speed. My older pc has now a 4890 which runs a bit cooler, although according to specifications it should not make a difference,

At the topic starter, always try the latest version of catalyst drivers which still supports your video-card.

Although 50-70fps with such an old card doesn't sound bad, just as "shiny_red_cobra" said, check the 3d settings, most likely there are some features enabled which the x800 doesn't even support.

Also double check your agp-settings in your bios, you need at least 4x mode to get maximum performance out of a X1950pro.

Just curious, why didn't you get a ati 4670? That is really a serious big upgrade from an old x800.

An agp system is old, but remember, the latest socket 939 amd systems can be an dual-core system! With a proper graphics card and fast ddr-memory it can still run the latest games. Offcourse not at maximum detail/resolution settings.
For a system with agp, it would be best to get an ati 4670, but check first if your powersupply can deliver the power this card needs. And as mentioned earlier, make sure your system is fast enough, if you got a low-end or very very old agp-system, you should not upgrade with a $80-$100 dollar agp card!

I am for more fragile cars too
This will improve (mainly) leagues too

Anniversary! 100th post

Indeed cars are much too strong, BUT the suspension is too weak or better said sometimes soft touches totally destroys your suspension(including dmg from just driving).
So the car itself must be a LOT weaker while the suspension should be a tiny bit stronger. Compared to the car itself it is really minute adjustment, mainly because the car itself is virtually indestructible

Quote from hazaky :Wow? VGA is analog signal for picture only. And u cant even compare VGA to HDMI ... Excuse me, but where the hell did u learn this

Edit:
VGA - Analog Signal
DVI - Digital Signal
HDMI - Digital Signal with audio

Your guessing something wrong here, u probably meant HDMI as VGA and VGA as HDMi.

To make matters even more complicated: Most ati videocards have audio over dvi And with a dvi -> hdmi adapter you can connect your television to your pc. If i am correct, the latest generations of ati-cards support 7.1 dts or dolby digital over dvi. Including DTS-HD and TrueHD

"he image arrives on the screen with a constant lag of 47 ms"
that is a LOT, not suitable for gaming at all. If you try 1st person shooters online, you will think they are all cheaters with such a screen!

I bought an LG-monitor mainly because the lg-monitors often have the lowest input-lag of all comparable monitors. The trade off is dat de image quality is not the best, but nog bad either. But having said that, the old 26inch screen was still over two times more expensive So its not fair to expect the same image quality from the much cheaper lg-monitor.
In fact, i also replaxed my tv with an lg for the same-input lag problems. I had serious sound sync problems with a high-end samsung tv(40F86). It had so much input-lag, the auto-lip-sync functions of the av-receiver couldn't compensate for it and gaming was totally impossible. input lag of at least 60ms and up to 90ms And don't worry"gamemode" didnt improve matters.

Although the black-levels on the lg (sl9000 47inch)are less good, but this screen is cheap for its size and features, the wii can be used again and overal image quality is actually very good. Apart from the backlevels, just as good as the "old" television.

So i spent lots of money to get rid of those lagging lcd-panels in my house, still one to go, an older 22 inch samsung screen, but that is low priority So check the input-lag before you buy! it can save a lot of euros or dollars or.. whatever currency hehe

I see lots of people are talking about logitech/creative/pc-speakers as they are any good for serious listening to music. They are all actually total crap.

Myself made a big mistake recently by buying creative T-40 series II because the studiomonitors i had before were broken. These highly rated creative speakers are really total crap too.

Any pc-speakers (except maybe the ones of klipsch, never had to change to hear those, has a few or several big faults for example. A few examples:
-high frequenties may be seriously distorted; hard, or none existent, too soft or too loud
-mids, sound like tin-cans, sounds just wrong, or it may be missing, sounding like there is a hole in the music.
-low's: some frequencys resonate violantly, some frequentys may be missing, any bass may be muddy
-Bit more complex music becomes one wall of sound, very noticable with many rock/gothicrock/hard rock music. It just gives you an headache when played on pc-speakers.

The creative T-40 series two, really have serious issues in the low range, they cannot produce more than one low frequency at a time and some low frequenties(80-100hz) are completly missing while others cause serious resonations. Some frequencies in the high-range are also too loud. For 100+ euro speakers it is just crap.

For really good sound on your pc: get an amp with two bookself speakers(not optimal since those are not designed for near-field listening) or two decent studio-monitors. Pc-speakers just don't not even get close to the sound quality of many low-range studio-monitors but creative does claim it is an excellent product. (logitech does the same for their more expensive product ranges).

I will in about one or two months buy serious studio-monitors again, since those are not so cheap (150-300 euro's each) I'll have to wait before i get them, because theere are other prioritys too(house, furniture, car, etc.)

it looks indeed like the graohics card is malfunctioning.
But i really don't have an explanation why you are struggling with ati-drivers. Just teh same as some people are claiming nvidia is shit.... something wrong about what or how you install in windows. Hard to tell.

Anyway, to increase performance:
RAM : 2x 1GB Team Dark + 1x 2GB AMICRO (3GB visible to WinXP x86)GPU : Zotac GTX 295 1792MB

Try to get your memory config balanced, most motherboards have dual channel memory configs so you need to place your memory in pairs. There is a remote change this memory is causing your troubles.
So this would mean adding another 1x2Gbyte AMICRO module which must be exaclty the same as you already have. And make sure the same type of memory is placed per channel. AND try keep memory modules the same over all channels. Different speed and timings means you always have to configure your bios to use the specifications of the slowest dimm. It is only ok to have different memory sizes although that is not optimal performance wise. Also some memory-modules require different voltage settings which will make it nearly impossible to get a stable config. Mixing memory brands is not so good idea even on different channels. It might work flawless... or it might not work...

btw: team dark?? Amicro? i don't know this memory manufactures?? What is their reputation?? How good is it? is it cheap?
